GIG REVIEW: RUFUS

Straight off their incredible world tour, Australian electronic heavyweights RUFUS switch main city stages for smaller, intimate settings all around regional Australia. February the 3rd saw them arrive at The Cube in Wodonga, where an almost sold out crowd filled the venue to its peak.  Doors opened up to the stars for a cool summer night.

Early fans where treated to talented support acts Winston Surfshirt and Polographia, both hailing from Sydney and delivering exceptional sets that had everyone on their feet; Winston Surfshirt’s funk inspired music & Polographia’s feet-stomping rhythm.

After eager chants for RUFUS, the band finally emerged through a mist. Hidden for a moment, the anticipation only added to the already electric energy in the theatre. RUFUS exploded on stage, delivering a set filled with such influence over the audience, everyone was jumping, singing & chanting. Songs such as “Say a prayer for me” & “Like an animal” triggered such a response from the audience, the atmosphere was astonishing. The 9 minute epic “Innerbloom” left all of us mind-blown.

The 3 gentleman who make up RUFUS; Tyrone, Jon, James, are genuinely humble for their support from regional fans. Expressing this, to the 1000 + fans in attendance, as an audience we gain the sense the band is still awestruck by their enormous following not only in Australia, but around the globe. 4 ARIA nominations for their latest album BLOOM, and one ARIA Win for their single “You were right” certainly cement their critical acclaim.

Their talent is monumental, RUFUS is one band you do not want to miss out on.
