ALBUM REVIEW: POZER ‘MUMS FAVOURITES’

reborn-spotlight copy
They’re mum’s favourites and should be yours as well.

Wodonga melodic rockers Pozer have unleashed a cracker of a debut EP, a five-song collection that’s likeable from first listen. Pozer is made up of vocalist/guitarist Tom Hanuska, lead guitarist Izaak Day, bass man Declan Rafferty and drummer Harrison Potter.

The opening title track paves the way with the rhythm-driven tune showing a extremely tight band of musicians. Hanuska delivers his words in almost a Damon Albarn-esque style. You’ll be tapping your toes in no-time and this is a theme that runs throughout the Mums Favourites EP.

While the band intimates it has been influenced by the likes of Radiohead and Violent Soho, there’s certainly elements of post-punk, post-Seattle sounds, Foo Fighters and Nirvana (hell, any band that Dave Grohl has plonked himself into), the pop power of likes of The Ramones and even, as mentioned earlier, British acts like Blur.

Control Freak is Pozer at its melodic rock best – a lyrically-impressive, pop anthem – while Gateway Bridge perfects the popular soft-loud-soft rock recipe. Weekend Love is the collection’s most mature and measured effort – a real highlight – and the closing effort Alright is super-lovable, breathless punk. These guys are fun!
